Class Discussion
Today in class we had an interesting discussion about people using their religion as a crutch to explain their behaviors towards gay people. I don't agree with people treating gay people unfairly and rudely and using the bible as an excuse because in the bible it claims that it's a sin. The bible also say's to love thy neighbors and to never get tired of doing good. Many Christians fail to see that no one can ever be fully holy and although someone is gay, that doesn't mean they are completely bad. That's just their way of sinning just like the rest of us who drink, smoke, swear, lie, lust, judge and etc. If you don't agree with me that being gay is a sin, then I respect that because that's your belief and I have my own. I have a few family members who are gay and I personally don't look at them differently. Gay or not, they are the same people they were when we were little. Growing up with cousins who were tomboys or acted more feminine and then coming out to us that they were gay never made a difference to me. I guess it was because I was so use to the way they dressed and acted that it didn't really matter to me if they were gay or not. I think one problem is that people don't want to accept that traditions are being changed slowly and change is something people are not willing to accept because they are so stuck in their ways. Accepting new change can be a threat to peoples beliefs especially if their stuck in it and think their beliefs are superior to others.

I totally agree with you! Many things have changed overtime and many changes are going to come along the way and in the future as well. I believe that, gay or not, we are all the same and deserve the same treatment. We should not be going around and labeling people, in fact we should stop labeling people because that's what makes this world how it is. If we stopped labeling every single person or judging them by the way they look, our world would probably be in a better situation. We would treat eachother equally, although, of course there'll still be people who would disagree and not accept the changes. I personally feel like complete equality will never be attained because our society always has to pick on something to judge or criticize. Why cant we all accept the changes? Everybody is different in their own way but we all should have the same rights as everybody.
ReplyDeleteAgreed with both you and Katie. I don't agree with it being a sin for loving someone you don't have a choice on who you like. There will always be the argument that you choose who you like but most of the time you don't.I am catholic but that doesn't necessarily mean i agree with everything that is said on the bible. You are entitled to your opinion though:) .I personally have gotten into discussions about whats wrong with gay people and most of the male's I've talked to make the statement that they are more accepting of lesbians because they have a male attitude. They feel comfortable because if it was a gay male they have the impression that they will try hitting on them making them uncomfortable. I understand where they come from and see why they have trouble accepting gay people.
ReplyDeleteSounds like I missed a pretty good debate...
ReplyDeleteHonestly, I agree with you and i wish that all Christians would be as understanding as we are. I'm a christian and my father is the pastor of our church, I have to be a good example in church and blah blah. What really gets to me when my dad preaches is when he brings in the whole gay couple thing. He says that we about love and acceptance and when it come a gay couple we ignore that. We just get disgusted and would want to avoid that. I myself am friends with about 10 gay people and I don't look or treat them differently than the rest of my friends. When my parents found out that one of friends were gay they told me to stay away and not be friends with him but that didn't stop. As you said Loisi, they have their own belief and i have mine.
ReplyDeleteI also agree, how does a Christian claim to be one with god when they themselves are hateful on individuals who are deemed unacceptable by others. God is seen as this savior and a power which not only forgives but accepts all people, if anything Christians should agree with these aspects rather than try and force sections of what is written on the bible upon others.
