Procrastination
Throughout the year, Mr. Smith and Mr. Stewart have instilled in us the importance of deadlines and having them met in a timely manner. And for the most part I believe we successfully did this first semester and the beginning of this semester. However it became painfully clear during the closing the days of the senior project that we may not of been as on top of it as we thought we were. Even now we are all rushing to complete the blog assignment hours before it is due. What is it that causes us to lose all motivation in school down the final stretch especially in a class like Global that I know we all thoroughly enjoy.

I think it's a mix of three things. First, we have already submitted our applications and transcripts to colleges. Second, the idea of senioritis makes me feel like minimal effort is expected. Third, a lot of us are tired of high school and are itching to leave.
ReplyDeletePersonally I have just gotten quite lazy with doing schoolwork these last few weeks. There's this phenomenon called "senioritis" and I am pretty sure we are all suffering from it at this point. We have heard back from colleges and picked where we are going so now we don't necessarily feel the need to work to the best of our ability anymore. To be honest, I haven't opened my backpack at home in the last 2 months...
ReplyDeleteI agree with Steven and Katie with the idea of "senioritis." It's not that I care about my grades any less, but knowing that the hard part is over and having a clear destination for the next four years relieves a lot of stress. Because it is the end of the year, there are few, if any, assignments left that can dramatically affect your grade. With basically two weeks left, we all know how much effort is required to maintain or achieve the grade wanted, but that is all based on personal preference.
ReplyDeletePersonally after completing my senior project presentation I knew that I was basically done with high school. My grades were where I wanted them to be and there were no big obstacles in my way to prevent me from keeping the grades. I am graduating, I still care about classes but there is minimal if no homework assigned in the classes so I can just skate on through with no problem. I feel like "senioritis" is helped on by my classes. If I had a bunch of homework to do or was still finishing my senior project there would be no "senioritis" but we only have notes to take on case studies and watch presentations so especially for global I have had little work thus allowing me to be lax. Other classes I feel are saying you have worked hard and now we are laying off basically because we know you are tired and so are we (the teachers) so we don't work as hard.
