Recently the President was defended by the White House for his approach to caring for the nation's veterans. This comes after he allegedly knew that the VA hospitals were reporting inaccurate wait times. I just think that this pretty unsettling, to hear that the President of our beloved country is keeping vital information a secret. Furthermore, that the White House backs Shinseki for him to stay in his position at the VA. There was one quote in the article that I read (will post below) that I thought was really powerful and to the point: "One death is tragic. But when you hide it, that's unforgivable." Overall, I think that the VA needs to get its act together and get rid of Mr. Shinseki because he is ruining the lives of so many families, families who's loved ones fought for our country. And I believe when that honor is taken away, there is really nothing left for that family, there's nothing for them to say about their son or daughter other than: "Shinseki let them die and did nothing about it!"

I think that a reoccurring theme in a lot of theses "scandals" associated with this administration is that we look right up to the top of the organization involved. From my point of view I just see that as wrong, not that they shouldn't be held accountable for what happens under them. Rather than call for the resignation of Shinseki who is at the top of the VA, who most likely didn't know the specific hospitals doing this. We should go after those actually moving veterans on the list in the hospitals and the people over seeing them who knew about the problem and covered it up. Those people are the real vilans in this circumstance not Shinseki. But once you take care of the culprits directly involved we should then look at leadership when we try to fix the problem from happening again. Its hard to fathom that Shinseki all the way in Washington knew of veterans being shifted to different list, he's not the one that we should go after. I feel most people are really missing the point.
ReplyDeleteI see where you're coming from! Definitely a different view point, I agree with you on how we shouldn't focus so much on Shinseki as much as the people on the front lines so to speak.
