What would you change about high school

With graduation nearing, I think I have a pretty good grip on what high school is all about.  Here is an article about what twenty high-schoolers would change about high school.  Personally, I have a few changes I would make.  First off, the grading system would be drastically different.  There wouldn't be semester based grades.  Colleges would have to evaluate students in other ways, such as test results and projects.  Hopefully this would eliminate the need for students to partake in what they believe is busy work.  They would be free to learn the material in a more personalized manner.  Colleges wouldn't have set class credit requirements.  I don't understand why a future police officer should have to learn trigonometry.  Also, school wouldn't start so early.  What would you guys change?

  1. I agree with most of the kids who responded to the survey about early start times being unreasonable for teenagers. In the grand scheme of things, 8:10 is not very early at all, however for millions of teenagers who are still trying to bloom into somewhat functioning adults, 8 a.m. is way too early. Every time I visit the doctor, the one thing she tells me is that getting 9-10 hours of sleep per night is the most important part of a child or young adult's healthy development. So why then do schools drag us out of bed before we are well rested and happy to start our day? We may never know.

If it were up to me, I would have sports/P.E. be morning electives and start school around noon.
