The AIDS-Shaming of Magic Johnson
Here is an article about Sterling shaming Magic Johnson about the fact that he has HIV. I think Sterling is just an example of the majority of society who is uneducated and not well informed about what HIV and AIDS are. Yes we are learning more and more about this disease but people are still very ignorant on the topic. Sterling is an example of the many who discriminate against people who contract this virus that causes this disease over time.

The things that Sterlings say is becoming less and less surprising. This guy needs to add a filter his mouth and really think about what he is saying out to the public. Even though Magic Johnson has HIV he hasn't hurt anybody. Sterling has no right to say something about a guy who has done great things through his life when Sterling himself has upset America with a his racist comments.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you Katie and I think Sterling's reasons for "shaming" Magic Johnson show ignorance towards this disease. The fact that Johnson was able to accept that he has HIV and still accomplish everything he has done is pretty unbelievable. The Magic Johnson Foundation has spread tons of awareness about HIV and AIDS and has provided a lot of support for those who have the disease. Although Johnson may have made some mistakes in his past, he learned from them and accepted the consequences of his actions. Donald Sterling however is continuing to make mistakes and say unintellectual comments.
ReplyDeleteThis is a pretty low-blow, even for Donald Sterling. Making fun of a life threatening disease is no joke. Magic Johnson has been an inspiration to those who have HIV. He has stayed healthy for so long with a disease that can take your life in a month. I feel as Donald Sterling is just acting out at this point.
