Media Cycle
As we know, in this day and age of instant news, constant updates, and relentless notifications, we are a very plugged in generation. Any time, day or night, we can check our device to receive the latest update on a breaking news story or something of the like. There are negatives to this in that important news that effects us all is swept under the bus to make room for the next story whether it be valuable or not. The Donald Stirling story has taken precedence over the story of the kidnapped Nigerian girls. This story was barely covered in our media outlets but Stirling story is being pushed on us daily from every angle. This phenomenon seems to be very strongly based in America. While all countries have their tabloids and celeb gossip, theirs is back page news that only die hard celeb stalkers would seek out. The attention span of our country and our species seems to be shrinking the more we ease the ability to access information and this is an unfortunate reality. What are your thoughts on this issue and do you believe their is a way for us to reverse the issue or remedy it?

In my opinion humans have never had to face a situation like this before. Never before have we been able to access so much information from the palm of your hand. We can read or even see in real time exactly whats happening half way across the world. Its incredible that we are able to do this. Back 50 years and you would read about the big news through the newspaper or thought there was an alien attack happening when it really was just the reading of a book. Humans consume and process more information than ever so its hard for us to be passionate about all of the things we read everyday. How could the average American help the kidnapped nigerian girls? I am not sure about that one. But we hear about it so quickly because of the internet now. We hear but we might not care. So many of these stories cross our phones, tablets, and laptop screens that we grow insensitive because in almost every case there is no much we can do. Its just now that we know about things and aren't able to help rather than just not hear about them at all or just way later. I am not sure how to combat this problem but it may just get worse as we share more and more information and are able to access it quicker.
