63 students were arrested at Teaneck High School for participating in a senior prank. It's not completely clear in the article what the students did, but it sounds like the prank consisted of spreading graffiti and debris over the school, and slathering the doorknobs with petroleum jelly. The superintendent said there was no permanent damage to the school. I do not see how it justifies the arrest of 63 students. This type of incident creates hatred towards law enforcement in highschoolers. I could see many high-schoolers I know participating in a prank like this and I don't think they deserve to be arrested.

I think it is really sucky that they got arrested but it does make sense. Since a ton of seniors are 18, they are probably more likely to be arrested. But since graffiti is vandalism, I can see why they would get in serious trouble.
ReplyDeleteI think that the police over reacted to the situation. Yes they were called on a senior prank and arrested 63 students. They even held them overnight in jail. But any further course of action is wrong in my opinion. They pulled a harmless prank, a senior prank that is tradition at many high school across the country and has been for a long time. I bet the officers that arrested all of the teens participated in their schools senior prank. Or maybe they didn't and are now being sour patches about the whole thing. Charges against the teens is wrong, it caused no damage and no one was hurt. Overnight in jail was enough punishment for the teens.
ReplyDeleteIn the grand scheme of things, I believe that although the seniors were participating in a so called tradition they should still be held accountable for their actions despite it not being harmful to anyone around them.
ReplyDeleteI agree that it is unnecessary to arrest 63 high school students, especially when there was no damage to the school. I do understand though if the students are 18 because they should of known that they could receive more severe consequences.
