Prom Draft

Earlier this week in Mr. Stewart's small group, we read about the recent drama involving forty pretentious boys gathering to have a "Prom Draft." Within this draft, the boys drew numbers ordering when they would be able to choose their date. For me I found this to just be typical Newport teenagers taking advantage of their country clubs and sport coats. I have many family friends who went to Corona Del Mar and I could easily see anyone of them being involved in this draft. Overall, I think that this was blown out of proportion due to the location and reputation that Newport has. Here is another article regarding the topic.

  1. Although i agree with your statement on the idea the area and reputation made this a bigger deal than it really was i still feel that what these boys did was degrading towards women. Men have been depicted as better than women before and what these boys did isn't helping dismiss that stereotype. One thing i will add though is that even though what the boys did was ridiculous i also feel that the girls involved are also to blame. One has the option to be either respected or disrespected so full blame should not be put on the boys for something all the girls could have said no to. Truth is that the boys created the game and the girls chose to play, win or lose.
