Schindler
In the movie today we witnessed Oskar Schindler make a large shift in his motivations and morals in using the Jews in his factory. We have been talking also about how truly being selfless or doing something for morals is to do something without expectation of reward or anything of the like. At the beginning of the movie some would say that Schindler was rather selfish, only out for himself and used the Jews to make money at less cost. The drastic shift was when Schindler decided to save all of the factory workers from the fate of Auschwitz. At his own expense, and risk he purchased the lives of almost 1000 Jew simply out of the kindness of his heart, and his compassion. You could argue that he just wanted workers but if that were so, why not just hire Poles at less risk and trouble. His decision shows that he truly displayed a moral compass as the risk and financial loss he took was not even a factor in his decision. If you were in this situation do you think you would be capable of doing what Schindler did?

If it meant giving a new start to someone who would've otherwise not had one, I would do it in a heartbeat no matter the cost. In likeness to the little boy who hopped in the "ish", he did it for his well being and ultimately his survival. I believe that Schindler chose to save the Jews' rather than gather the Poles because he finally felt a real connection to the Jews' after he saw the ash raining from the sky as well as the initial raid of the Ghettos.
ReplyDeleteOskar Schindler is very admirable but personally I couldn't do it. It's not that I wouldn't want to help the Jewish people it's just I don't think I could hang around the SS men and their evil twisted mindsets. I don't think I would be able to hold back my hate for what they're doing even if it were to save lives.
