I always thought the Tim Tebow vs Michael Sam argument was interesting. Some argue that it's a double standard that people would praise Michael Sam for being gay and kissing his soulmate in front of the camera while others would mock Tebow for praying in public and being a Christian. On the other hand, the argument was that Tebow's situation versus Sam's situation is nothing comparable to one another. These are two articles that state's both sides of the argument. Personally, I don't think Sam is being praised for being gay but that he is being praised for having such courage, especially in this time, to kiss his soulmate in front of cameras. I think many people who disagree with Michael Sam's decision of kissing his soul mate on cameras are afraid of change especially changing norms. Usually, kissing one a man to his wife on television is okay because that's normal. Seeing Michael Sam's action made people scared that more openly gay people would start being brave like Michael Sam and change norms.
Tim Tebow's belief is argued that he uses it as a brand and prays in public for attention while there is many Christians who are in the NFL but are not so opened like Tebow is. I love that Tim Tebow is expressing his love for God and I do recall that you should never be ashamed of praising God no matter where you are at. But at the same time, in the bible it states, "When you pray, don't be like the hypocrites who love to pray publicity on street corners and in the synagogues where everyone can see...and when you fast, don't make it obvious as the hypocrites do..." (Matthew 6:5-16). If Tim Tebow is using his religion as a brand than we obviously know through these bible verses how true his faith is. In one of the article, they also make a point of how people are not mocking Tim Tebow because of his faith but on his skills.
I am curious on what you guys think about this whole Tebow versus Sam issue.

  1. I think Tim tebow shouldn't be criticized for being openly christian. Although he does publicly boast about being a christian he should not be criticized. I think that he could be faking his christianity for publicity but honestly it doesn't matter to me because all he is doing in spreading christianity and probably changing some younger athletes lives because of it.

  2. I also believe that Tim Tebow should not be criticized for being openly Christian, because he is proud and not ashamed of his religion and wants to show it to the world. Just like Sam who is not afraid of being gay and wants to show the world that it's nothing to be ashamed of.
