Fast Track to U.S. Citizenship

The MAVNI program or military accession vital to the national interest, allows the military to enlist legal immigrants who have special language or medical skills. It was started in 2009 and has around 3,000 people in the program. This program is also very competitive and has turned away thousands of applicants. Usually participants are sworn in as citizens after completing basic training without needing a green card or permanent residency, which makes this program the fastest way to gain citizenship in the U.S. But you can't be undocumented and you need to serve at least 4 years in the military if you are accepted for you language skills. Plus you need to have lived in the U.S. for at least 2 years. This program is set to expire on Sept. 30th of this year unless the program is renewed. But some law makers worry about security issues after the November 2009 killing of 13 people at Fort Hood in Texas by an Army psychiatrist, a U.S.-born son of Palestinian immigrants, the program was put on hold for about two years pending additional security reviews. Should this program be renewed?
