Next year I'm going to NYU which is widely known as a "global network" and a very accepting place to all people. Since we're learning so much about racism and how the issue still continues today, I decided I would see if there were any recent racist incidents at NYU. I came across an article from 2011 that talks about a mailman being discriminated against. One of the library workers at the university would call him a "monkey" and would tell him to "get back in his cage," and suffered abuse like this for two years. This just shows how racism is definitely still present, even in a place that is supposed to be the most accepting.

This is interesting. What stands out to me is that this happened at a college. We like to assume that institutes of higher learning are much more open minded, driven only by the best intentions for all, but here we have one displaying bigotry. This seems to reflect how deeply our prejudices are engrained. Then a question to consider is: does this make the institute racist? The system racist? Or just a few individuals racist?
