Federal Government "Shutdown"?!

Tonight is a very important night because Republican representatives in Congress are considering shutting down the Federal Government due to disagreements between Democrats and Republicans in funding issues.

*This is an article touching base on the topic!

  1. I find it interesting that the author of the cnn article under the video link you posted chose the words he chose. Even though this is a potentially serious issue and could effect everybody, he describes it as the government throwing "a hissy fit" and a "dysfunction double whammy". He seems to be taking this very lightly despite listing the serious effects of the shutdown in the rest of the article.

  2. I also got an interesting piece of information from my dad when I was discussing the federal shut down, he said that there have been like 18 government shut downs or "partial" shut downs since he was born. I did some research since 1976 (no thats not the year he was born) there have been 18 government shut downs due to Congress not passing authorization for sufficient funds for the federal government. But the really interesting thing that I was found, 15/18 of the last eighteen government shut downs had a democratic lead house and 9/18 shut downs had a democratic lead senate. To get back to the point there has a been a multitude of government "partial" shut downs over the past 40 years and none have resulted in huge catastrophes. So I not terribly worried but it is definitely a new thing for me and a lot of students that haven't really experienced this before.
