Racial Slurs

Just the other day I was driving in a mall parking lot. I look in my side mirror to see there is a car trying to pass me at a stop sign, I yelled a racial slur and continued. I never saw anything coming from this until I got out of my parked car to a man, of the race I insulted standing behind my car yelling at me. This situation really made me think of my actions and how my simple words can effect other people.
Comment if any of you guys have ever been in a situation like this and if so, how you reacted.

  1. I'm in situations like that when I get mad while playing Call of Duty. I don't really notice or react to it because it's, dare I say, such a reoccurring thing that it just passed me by.

  2. A couple of days ago, some of my Junior friends interviewed me and another friend about racial slurs for their muckraking project. I didn't realize how many times people use them. After the interview I started to notice more and more the amount of times my friends use racial slurs and their justification for using them are either "its ok. i could say it because i'm ___" or "i'm just kidding".

  3. This past sumner I let my niece drive which was a huge mistake. As she was backing out slowly she almost hit a woman, but honestly I feel like the lady was overreacting the car was barely moving. I knew she would be upset so I let her express her frustration. After about three minutes I started getting frustrated because she would not quit with the racial slurs, not to mention she was using a race we have no ties to. I just got tired of holding my tongue so I shouted some inappropriate things back at her. It didn't fix anything or make me feel better but it was more like a reflex reaction. There is no justification in using racial slurs but the fact that it's so commonly accepted makes it hard to fix this problem.
